The time has come for this little EV to take the spotlight! We were honestly surprised by the limited variety of aftermarket accessories available for this car—especially considering it has been on the market for over eight years now. But let’s not get off topic; the car I’m referring to is the charming Renault ZOE.

In a future blog, we will delve deeper into a review of this car. For now, enjoy our development journey!

Der Scan

Since there was a significant lack of aftermarket accessories for the Renault ZOE, we decided to find one we could use for scanning. One day, I met a really nice Belgian guy who drove a Renault ZOE. He was genuinely interested in our business and offered to let us scan his car so he could experience the process of creating aftermarket accessories! We also allow the owners of the cars we scan to choose products they want for free when we receive the first batch. So it goes without saying that he would receive our products for free as well!

Since Belgium is a 2.5-hour drive from our office, we started that day early in the morning. At that point, we weren’t sure if we could cross the borders due to the COVID-19 restrictions in our countries, but we decided to give it a try. Thankfully, we were able to get through without any trouble. We arrived around 10 in the morning and met Dirk, the owner of the Renault ZOE—or rather, the borrower of his wife’s ZOE (shhh, don’t tell her what we did!). He was a really nice and thoughtful guy with a great sense of humor. He even arranged for us to use a garage for the scan due to the rainy weather! The little village he lived in was lovely, though I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many snack bars in one town before!

After chatting with Dirk, we immediately began the scanning process with our partners from Geopoints.

On the way back, our Tesla Model 3 Long Range showed only 240 kilometers of battery left, while we had around 220 kilometers to travel home. We decided to test its accuracy and drove back without any issues. So, don’t worry about range anxiety with your EVs—our tests have proven time and again that they can handle the journey!

Die zweite Stufe "Prototyp"

We sent the 3D models to our development department and began working on the products immediately. In just a few months, we had the first prototypes ready for fitting on the car.

For the fitment, we reached out to our friend Dirk again to test the prototypes on their car, and we were fortunate that they had time for us in the next two days. This time, we also met his wife, along with her friends and their dog—what a lovely family they have! We tried fitting our new products, but some slight adjustments were needed to achieve the perfect fit.

After fitting the prototypes and watching the dog wrestle with a robot lawnmower, we returned home with some new tasks and a promise to Dirk’s wife and her friends to bring a Dutch treat called “Tompouce” on our next visit.

(A funny story about the Tompouce will be shared later—something involving a broken Model 3 motor in the middle of a public road!)
